Today has always been a day of gathering for myself and a lot of other families. My mom or grandfather used to put on this big dinner production for my Italian/Irish family, and it was something to look forward to every year. It’s my duty now (though much smaller thankfully) but I look back on it fondly.

Being older, I realize that the holiday has it’s roots celebrating a rather grim event, and in light of current issues I have donated myself to the Resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), and would encourage you to as well if you can. You can help them out here, and learn more here.
